What foods are acceptable? Are the results long term?
I read in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s, "Encyclopedia of Body Building" and high proteitn diet means measuring your Fat, Carb, and Protein intake. A High Protein diet will consist of 60% Protein, 20% Carb, and 20% Fat of your total food intake per day.

This means you will have to keep an eye on what you eat per day. If you take in 60g of protien, 20g of carbs, and 20g of fat per meal, you will equal out to the above total needed.

If you are working out regularly then yes a higher protein diet is recommended. I know it seems like alot but it is recommended that you eat a gram of protein for every pound you weigh.

It does, but it depends on how much weight you want to lose. I tried it because I wanted to lose just a few pounds even though I’m not exactly fat. The high-protein diet made be weak, especially since I’m an athlete. Because you aren’t able to eat carbs, you don’t have any energy source, and you’ll feel sluggish.
But if you want to try it,
Acceptable foods: meat, fish, few servings of nuts, most vegetables, skim milk, low fat cheese, sugar-free anything (75 calories worth), egg, chicken.
Non-acceptable foods: fruits, some vegetables (carrots, beets, peas) BREAD or any form of carbs such as pasta, whole milk, sweets.

Personal Experience
If you’re trying to gain muscle by going on a high protein diet, good luck with that because contrary to popular belief, IT WON’T WORK. People think they gain muscle through eating more protein because it’s actually psychological. Generally, those people who take the protein supplements and eat extra protein spend more time at the gym. The more effort you put into your exercise routine, the better your results will be. So, its from the excercise, not eating protein. The only proven way you can actually build muscle is through exercise (weight lifting). When you lift weights, you’re actually tearing muscle and the torn muscle gets replaced with new muscle tissue. Therefore your muscles will get bigger. For adults, you should be getting 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram (one kilogram is equal to 2.2 pounds) of body weight. If you’re an athelete, you should be eating between 1.2-1.5 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. If you eat excessive amounts of protein, it will just go to waste because your body can only use so much of it. There’s a process that your body goes through when you consume too much protein. It’s called deamination. It’s the removal of a nitrogen group from an amino acid ("amine" means contains nitrogen) without transferring it to another carbon skeleton. So basically, eating too much protein will just result in you peeing out the excess (you’re removing nitrogenous waste). Plus like anything else you eat, eating too much of it can be converted to fat and stored as adipose tissue (body fat).
Protein is healthy for you if you’re eating the right amounts and the food you’re getting it from is healthy. Good sources of protein include egg whites, soy products, and beans. Lean meats such as chicken breasts are good too. Choose wisely though because some proteins can increase your fat and cholestrol intake. Some research has also shown that eating too much protein can lead to an increase in calcium excretion (you can get osteoporosis, kidney stones, or kidney/liver disease).

To my understanding you should only stay on a high protein diet for two weeks.
Although high-protein diets generally aren’t harmful, they may increase the risk of kidney stones and osteoporosis. High-protein diets may also limit other healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables. In addition, many high-protein foods — such as meat, milk, cheese and eggs — are also high in fat and cholesterol. So choose your protein sources wisely. Good choices include fish, beans, like pinto, lima, red, and lentils. Do not buy farm grown fish, because of all the mercury that is found in them. The best fish is mackeral, sardines, and I use the canned salmon. Researchers have now found that tuna is the highest in Mercury.
If you have kidney or liver disease or any chronic health condition, talk to your doctor before starting a new diet.
I personaly do not have any dairy products except a bit of Gouda cheese occasionaly, and unsalted cultured butter. If you must have milk there is Rice Milk in the non dairy sections in the stores, also tho’ expensive Rice cheese is delicious.

Yes they do but you need to eat essential fats.
Some say they won’t work and it’s a nonsense. Weight lifting IS needed in order to build muscle, but so are proteins. Our body can’t produce proteins without them being ingested and absorbed. Then they get into muscle IF we are doing weight lifting.
Acceptable: any source of lean protein (chicken, turkey, fish, skim dairy), eggwhites, nuts

Some high protein foods are:
chicken
turkey
lean meats and beef
fish (just about every fish is high in protein, anything from tuna fish, to salmon, to shrimp)
egg whites
There are many other high protein foods, but these are the basics.
Anywhere from .5 grams to 2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight will be good, but try to stick closer to 1 gram per pound. So, if you weigh 175lbs, eat 175 grams of protein everyday, whether you worked out that day or not. I eat a little over 1 gram of protein per pound, and most people who are looking to gain weight, get big and increase muscle should also try to eat at least 1 gram per pound a day, or a little more then that. Someone looking to lose weight can and should eat at least 1 gram per pound as well.
